Entertainment & nightlife

Putney has a good selection of pubs and bars. Although there’s a lack of nightclubs in Putney, that doesn’t mean that a good night out can’t be enjoyed in the area. There’s also a cinema and a community theatre for those seeking some culture.

Schools

Parents and children have a mix of excellent state and private schools to choose from. Notable primary schools include All Saints, Our Lady of Victories, St Mary’s, Brandelhow, Hotham, Hurlingham and Prospect House. Private secondary education in the area includes the highly sought after Putney High School for girls, Ibstock School and Kings College Wimbledon. St Pauls and the Harrodian schools are also within reach.

The mainline stations of Putney and Wandsworth Town have routes into London Waterloo and out towards Reading and Windsor, making it an ideal location to access both central London and the nearby counties.
Drivers too benefit from Putney’s location. The A3 and M4 offer easy access to the M25, Heathrow & Gatwick airports and access out of London towards the South West.

Parks & recreation

It’s common to see runners and cyclists making the most of the local parks such as Putney Heath, Wandsworth Park and the famous Richmond Park, to name just a few. Along the river, walkers can enjoy the Putney to Richmond Thames Path walk, an 8 mile meander that follows the course of the Oxford and Cambridge boat race.

For those who love being on (or in) the water, Putney has both a canoeing club and a diving club.

The Putney Sub Aqua Club holds diving sessions both in the UK and abroad, as well as local social events. The Putney Bridge Canoe Club offers training and open water sessions for all levels of canoeists and kayakers, on the Thames and further afield.

Putney has a lot to offer in terms of cafes, bars and restaurants. Of course, there are many traditional British pubs to choose from too, some located right on the river bank itself.

Best place for breakfast
If you fancy something other than bacon and eggs, Kitchenette offers Mediterranean style breakfasts such as Aegean Golden toast or Menemen (tomato, thyme, peppers and egg with Turkish bread and yoghurt) alongside the more familiar full English breakfast.

Best place for a coffee
If you’re a bit of a coffee fiend, Artisan may be of interest to you. After spending a year working in the coffee regions of Uganda, owners Edwin and Magda decided to open a café in Putney following the growing trend of independently owned coffee shops across the capital.
